Advice from James Sheard of The Accountancy People
No one started a business to spend their time doing administration, paperwork or bookkeeping, but unless you do it your business doesn’t work efficiently. The good news is that it’s now possible to streamline your processes so you can concentrate on your business and automation can do your books. So how do you streamline?
You can get computers to talk to each other, so once information is in one system you should be able to transfer information between programmes. A practical example would be your bank transactions loading automatically into your accounting software.
Computers are really good at doing routine jobs. So if you are doing routine, fairly mindless admin jobs, I challenge you to think how they could be automated. It’s really easy to get into the habit of doing these jobs, and it takes a bit of time to set up an automated system. But go on! I challenge you to be different – be more efficient!
Storing and running applications ‘in the cloud’ means that the information is stored professionally elsewhere, say in Milton Keynes. At the Accountancy People we find cloud based applications really help: having information held centrally helps make integration easy. Coupled with this, modern applications are designed to integrate with other programmes. So we often recommend Xero cloud based software, which links into some great payroll software and an invoice handling system. If that sounds quite techy, don’t worry!
